Part 2 What You Didn’t Know You Could Do With a DLA Award. Here is the list of benefits you can apply with a DLA award letter.

1. Free Public Transport
Apply for free or discounted travel through:
Disabled Person’s Bus Pass (via local council)
Freedom Pass (London)
Disabled Railcard – 1/3 off for you and your child

2. Grants for Equipment & Support
Use your DLA award to apply for grants that cover:
Sensory tools, therapy equipment, holidays, or technology
From charities like:
Family Fund
Newlife Charity
Variety Children's Charity

3. Discounts on Childcare Costs
If your child receives DLA, you may be eligible for:
Tax-Free Childcare for Disabled Children
Up to £4,000 a year to help with childcare. Apply via:
gov.uk/tax-free-childcare
30 Hours Funded Childcare (for SEND children)
Some councils offer extra hours. Contact your local Family Information Service to check.

4. Free or Discounted Entry for Family Days Out
Many attractions offer special rates with proof of DLA. Examples include:
Merlin Attractions (Legoland, Chessington, SEA LIFE)
Free carer ticket with a paying child
CEA Card – Free cinema entry for carers

Eureka! Children's Museum – Free carer access and sensory sessions
Local soft play centres – Many offer SEN discounts or quiet sessions

5. Blue Badge Parking & Carer’s Allowance
You don’t need to be on high-rate mobility to qualify for a Blue Badge.
If your child has significant behavioural or sensory needs that affect mobility or safety in public, you may still be eligible.
Apply via your local council with supporting evidence.
