ABOUT STEPHEN
Stephen Bertges was 6 years old and living in northern New Jersey when New York City celebrated Van Cliburn’s 1958 Tchaikovsky win with a ticker tape parade. Inspired, he began piano lessons shortly after that, pursuing his talent through bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Manhattan School of Music. He shifted his focus, however, and went on to earn an MBA in marketing from Columbia University. He started his new career in technology at Dow Jones and Company, and went on to lead sales and marketing teams in the software industry for over two decades. He has never lost his passion for music; in addition to his personal studies, he served as board member and president of the local youth orchestra and served as director of music at his church. Since retiring in 2004, he has maintained an intense commitment to health and fitness, contending that training for his Ironman triathlons (he has completed 10 so far) allows him to enjoy fine restaurants. He also enjoys playing duo piano with his wife of over 40 years, Celeste, and treasures time spent with his children and grandchildren.
