The family of former UFC light heavyweight star Ryan Jimmo have confirmed the fighter has died at the age of 34 following an alleged hit and run.

The incident took place early Sunday morning in Edmonton, Canada, reports MMA Fighting, with Jimmo allegedly struck by a vehicle while walking back to his own.

His aunt Sharon confirmed the tragic news via CBC, while UFC president Dana White took to social media to pay tribute – although police are yet to formally identify Jimmo.
The homicide division of Edmonton Police Service are now investigating amid reports that a ‘brief verbal altercation’ took place between the drivers of separate vehicles outside an Edmonton lounge.

A police statement read:

The driver of one vehicle, a 34-year-old man, approached the occupants of the second vehicle on foot. As he was walking back to his vehicle, it is alleged the suspect vehicle accelerated, struck the man and fled the area.

The man who was struck was treated and transported to hospital where he was declared deceased.

Jimmo competed with the UFC between 2012 and 2015, and was a popular and entertaining figure within the promotion.
Along with his hilarious weigh-in exchange with Sean O’Connell, Jimmo will also be remembered for holding one of the fastest knockouts in the competition’s history – finishing Anthony Perosh after just seven seconds at UFC 149.

His aunt Sharon said:

He was a people person, he loved everyone. He was so kind. He was a fighter but personally he was a great guy.

Ryan would help anyone would need it, he was just that kind of guy. He lived his life the way he wanted, he was happy-go-lucky.
