Ford Capri Engine Build Begins! Ford 2.8 V6 teardown, good enough to build? Capri Race Car Stuff!

One foot in front of the other we keep moving forward with our vintage Ford Capri race car revival! As we formulate plans for the front clip replacement we have plenty of other pieces of the project to work on, first off being getting a motor ready to go in this thing!

As hopefully you all noticed in a previous video we picked up 2 donor 2.8 Ford V6s off of Facebook Market Place just west of Milwaukee. One was a long block, the heads bolted onto an assembled bottom end but no intake or oil pan. The other is a complete carb to pan motor including an Offenhauser 4 barrel intake manifold and a Holley 390cfm 4 barrel carb. First up for teardown will be the more stripped down motor, let's see if we have a good candidate to build from!

Quickly we start spotting things that are a bit "odd" though it seems we may have ourselves a virgin block with factory rods and pistons. These Ford Cologne 2.8 V6 motors are sort of odd little creations, they came in a range of cars starting in the mid 70s through the 80s including the Capri, the Mustang II, and the Bronco II, unfortunately none of them were particularly performance builds. But that's not going to hold us back from building something fun, strong, and at least reasonably fast with it!

For those of you who may be slightly confused with all the Capriness that's going on, this is for the '74 Ford Capri we picked up from Junk Yard Digs a few weeks back NOT the '72 Team Blitz Cosworth Ford Capri you saw in the most recent videos. If you think THAT is complicated, just you wait it's going to get much much worse very soon!

Lots more content to come on this Capri project, this will be a long long adventure with some crazy stuff ahead!
