How to clean an ENFit feeding tube.
Important. These instructions are only for children who use ENFit feeding tube supplies and accessories. If you are not sure if your child has ENFit supplies and accessories for their feeding tube, please contact a member of their health-care team.
Supplies. ENFit cleaning tool or an intradental brush or a toothbrush, ENfit syringe filled with water, ENFit feeding tube.
Step 1. Wash your hands thoroughly using soap and water.
Step 2. Clamp the feeding tube and forcefully flush the tubes moat with water while plugging the center hole of the tube with your finger or thumb. The moat is the open space inside the feeding tube connector. It is important to plug the hole so that water does not get into the tube.
Step 3. Connect the cleaning tool to the end of the feeding tube.
Note: if you do not have the ENFit cleaning tool, you can use a toothbrush or an intradental brush to clean the moat.
Step 4. Twist back and forth to scrub the moat of the feeding tube.
Step 5. Remove the cleaning tool and rinse with clean water. Pat the cleaning tool dry with a clean paper towel.
Step 6. Ensure the tube is dry and secure the end by placing the feeding tube cap back on the tube.
Note: if the feeding tube is clogged with thick formula or medication, place the tip in warm water for a few minutes and then clean the end using the cleaning tool.
Step 7. Clean and store the supplies as instructed by your health-care team. Remember we're here to help. If you are not sure what to do, contact a member of your child's health-care team.
