In 2009 Mass Humanities joined the tradition of supporting public readings of Frederick Douglass's speech "What to the slave is the 4th of July?" Communities across Massachusetts receive grants from Mass Humanities to read and discuss the lasting legacy of Douglass's words. Directed by Amanda Kowalski.
