The Troepaeum Triani at modern day Adamklissi in Romania has a number of monuments at least some of which are associated with Trajan's Dacian campaigns. Among these are the metopes (originally 54) depicting Roman soldiers on parade and in battle against various tribal peoples. Many of the latter are also shown as captives.
Today we look at the types and equipment of the legionaries, auxiliary infantry and cavalry and discuss what a couple of the scenes may represent.
