Ethelbert the Tiger cub is fun, adventurous and naughty. He can't stay out of trouble and every day he has a new question to present to his wise friend and mentor Dilip. Determined to show Ethelbert the answer rather than tell him, Dilip takes him on his raft through the Magic Waterfall to a new fantasy adventure in every episode which is relevant to Ethelbert's problem and will help him resolve it for himself. Each episode begins and ends in Ethelbert's jungle home and the jungle scenes act as bookends for the central fantasy adventure always bringing Ethelbert home in time for supper.

Ethelbert cannot understand why some things have to change. He would like everything to stay the same – for ever! Dilip and Ethelbert travel to Egypt where they help a grumpy snake shed his skin. Ethelbert realises that sometimes a change can be for the better.
