The process for applying conditional formatting to pivot tables is a bit different from regular ranges. Pivot tables give us a Formatting Options menu where we can specify the fields that we want to apply the format to.

I explain how to view the Formatting Options after the menu button disappears on the worksheet.

You will learn how to include or exclude the Grand Total Rows and Columns. I also explain how to apply the conditional formatting at different field levels when you have multiple fields in the rows or columns area.

The advantage to applying conditional formatting this way is that the formatting is re-applied every time the pivot table changes. This includes applying a filter (slicer) or changing the layout or order of the Rows and Columns areas.
