Wha’ll be King but Charlie (Scottish Rebel Folk Ballad) - Sam Shackleton

Описание к видео Wha’ll be King but Charlie (Scottish Rebel Folk Ballad) - Sam Shackleton

Busking an old Scottish Jacobite rebel folk ballad on the banjo beneath the castle in beautiful Edinburgh, Scotland. Sung in the Scots language, “Wha’ll Be King but Charlie” is about Scotlands 1700’s Jacobite king/claimant of the throne, Bonnie Prince Charlie, a very important figure in Scottish history. After the Jacobite uprising was defeated at the Battle of Culloden much of the Scottish highland culture, language, and clan system was lost and purposefully destroyed in the years that followed. I love this song which serves as a rallying call to Scottish clans and often wonder how different Scotland would be today if the Jacobites had won. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
