Описание к видео Basic Bird Ornithopter Mechanism | Plane Crazy | Bonus Dragon Example

Apologies for the black bars. First time using OBS on 16:10 screen.

Dragon demo: 5:56

Tutorial showcasing how to make a "true" ornithopter* using a simple reinforced joint. The reinforced joint allows for stable, fast-twitch creations from small to large ornithopter wings. To reduce motor2 instability, the ball joint was used with the reset function + higher tolerance/strength motor2 config.

For the tired fingers/oh my keyboard keys/tech savvy people, it is possible to use any regular external keypress macro software to press the buttons automatically. Personally, I wrote my own control script with Python using the pynput module to press flap buttons for me while I'm holding W, etc.

General tips for automating control (macro software/code script):
(1) Plan out an emergency exit key (ESC key is good) in case the script goes out of control.
(2) Program in "pause" keys and logic for when you want the script to pause/reset values before flight. I have my master pause toggle key on a side button of my mouse since the game can't detect those keys anyway in my experience.
(3) (code script) My script uses the on_click/on_press/on_release (pynput) functions to detect key press/release and then set the state of various flags/global variables. The state of the flags are then executed in a master while loop set to run at 60 times per second on idle flag, 10 on pause flag, and unique delays for different flapping speeds.
(4) (code script) Put in helper functions to print out information you need to help with debugging. Ex: "[Keyboard] {key} {event_type} - {message}" and "[Mouse] ({x}, {y}) with {button} {'pressed' if pressed else 'released'} - {message}"

I hope to see more "true" ornithopters in the future. For reference, my ideas of what a "true" ornithopter in this game consists of a creation that can sustain flight and propel itself in any direction in the air through pure flapping motions. So within this video, I would consider my dragon and bird to be "true" ornithopters. Although they both use helium blocks to aid in flight, they still rely on mechanical flapping motion and the game's physics to sustain flight and fly through the air. For the tutorial bird, it can fly without the helium block just fine, but it would feel like swimming with a weighted vest.
