In a rescue today, my bat decided to have a swim to escape me.
There was no escape.

I thought you'd all like to see how well bats can swim. This video can be a trailer for the rescue video to come.

Flying-Foxes can swim, but they don't just go for a swim to cool down or for pleasure. They belly dip to get a drink and lick the water off their fur. Sometimes they end up in the water and swim to the bank.
It must be stressful to be out of their element. They do not linger in the water. To be out of their natural environment makes them targets for predators.

Don't worry, I got my bat.
I didn't really intend the bat to go for a swim, but I also didn't feel like getting wet, so I just let him decide where to go. Since there was no escape from the pool enclosure it was just a matter of him cornering himself.
