The number of late night entertainment venues offering music and dance is growing in Dublin.

As music choices change so too do outlets for different kinds of music. Dublin, like most cities, has seen the emergence of a vibrant nightclub scene. The latest addition to this scene is the Go-go girl.

Pop music captures the excitement and all the enthusiasm of youth. There’s nothing intellectual about an appreciation of pop music. It’s something which compels you onto the floor and makes you want to dance.

‘Seven Days’ visits the nightclubs of Dublin to speak to customers and club owners about what actually goes on in these venues.

"Swinging London is only an hour away. The Costa Brava has shown how to mix sex with sausages and fish and chips for lots of Irish people. And what happens in Dublin will eventually happen in Templemore if previous patterns are repeated."

For many revellers, the night does not end when the clubs close. It is on to Gigs Place for a late night feed.

This episode of ‘Seven Days’ was broadcast on 20 March 1970. The reporter is John O’Donoghue.
