Indulge, guilt free, in these homemade, non-processed chickpea protein bars. Chickpeas aren't probably the first thing you think of when it comes to protein bars but they are one of nature's superfoods and these bars make the perfect pre or post workout fuel for your body.

Ingredients:
2 x 400g tins chickpeas
10 dates, pitted
4 tbsp honey
8 tbsp crunchy peanut or almond butter
75g ground almonds
½ tsp baking powder
150g mixed seeds (sunflower, linseed, sesame)
100ml milk or plant alternative


Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Line a 20cm x 20cm square cake tin with greaseproof baking parchment.
2. Tip the chickpeas into a food processor then add the dates, honey, nut butter and blitz into a smooth paste.
3. Add the remaining ingredients then blitz again until smooth and combined well.
4. Transfer the mixture into the cake tin then spread out and smooth with a spatula. It will be a dough consistency.
5. Place the tin in the oven and bake for 25 minutes or until a knife come out of the mixture clean.
6. Leave to cool in the pan for 10 minutes then tip the cake out of the pan. Create bars by cutting down the middle then slicing 6 bars horizontally out of each piece.
7. Store in the fridge in an airtight container.
