The complete Arguing with Myself series in a single video.

Posting your stories to Reddit subreddits like /r/NoSleeep, /r/ShortScaryStories, and online can be detrimental to author success. In this video, I'll be discussing the reasons why I stopped posting my stories online and why you SHOULDN'T post stories online or on sites like Reddit, Wattpad, or elsewhere either. I specifically talk about /r/NoSleep and /r/ShortScaryStories as they're within my experience. However, this can apply elsewhere.

In Part 2 of Arguing with Myself, I discuss the BENEFITS of posting stories to /r/NoSleep, /r/ShortScaryStories, and other subs on Reddit. From the perspective of a new writer or hobbyist, it can be a way to gain access to a huge audience, a chance to build a readership and build relationships with other authors with similar interests.

In Part 3 of Arguing with Myself, I discuss the reasons why authors SHOULD NOT post their stories to /r/NoSleep, /r/ShortScaryStories, and other subs on Reddit. From the perspective of a new writer or hobbyist, posting to Reddit gives a license for Reddit to use your work. I discuss the extent of what Reddit can do with the license. Additionally, I talk about the infatuation with upvotes new authors might have and why it isn't the best idea to become addicted to them.

In this final entry of Arguing with Myself, I talk about the success stories to have come out of NoSleep including PenPal, Borrasca, The Left/Right Game, Spire in the Woods, Search and Rescue, and The Patience Who Drove Me Out of Medicine. These success stories are the incredibly rare exceptions to blockbuster success on NoSleep. However, authors shouldn't bank on their work going viral and getting the attention of Hollywood. Also, I talk about converting a readership accustomed to getting stories for free into paying customers. Does it work?

Lastly, I conclude the series with my thoughts on whether or not posting stories to NoSleep and ShortScaryStories is worth the downsides of dealing with all the negatives that go along with it.
