UNLEAVING Full Game Playthrough [No Commentary] PC Walkthrough | Dinky Dana Plays

Unleaving is an artistic indie game developed by Orangutan Matter Games.

It is a beautifully hand-painted game that seamlessly blends creative art, pencil and graphite puzzle elements, and immersive audio and storytelling.

Referencing the Gerard Manley Hopkins' Poem 'Spring and Fall: To a Young Child', Unleaving shares an emotional story that immerses the player with its vibrant art style emotional storytelling mixed with thought-provoking puzzle elements.

I interpreted this game to tell a story of growth and evolution like a tree losing it's trees (unleaving) and the loss a child experiences throughout life. As you journey through the game, you encounter changes and troubles that you must overcome and almost "free" your character from things that hold you back. It is a refreshing experience that leaves the immersive experience in your mind to interpret how you would like just like a physical painting in a museum or interactive immersive experience.

In the Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem, it opens with the line, "Márgarét, are you gríeving Over Goldengrove unleaving?"

And as you start the game, you see a child experiencing the final leaf being lost to a gust of wind. And so, your journey begins as you follow a cicada and observe your reflection in a pool of water.

The game also reminds me a lot of puzzle games like Limbo and Braid - two of my favorite indie games. From gravity effects and audio cues, it really took me back to those two games and I hope more games follow this creative artistic direction.
