I ask the question how come my MIDI is so messed up in Reason? Propellerhead's Reason is a two-way street on how it deals with MIDI, it just does it differently than a normal DAW. IMHO, Reason somewhat ambiguous with it's MIDI and it why I believe it is not a major player when compared to the bigger DAWs like ProTools or Cubase. The problem that happens is how the MIDI works in Reason, it just doesn't split it up in a normal 16-MIDI channel way. You just can’t send MIDI channel 1 to control a Piano on Track 1 and send MIDI channel 2 to control a Guitar Instrument Track 2.

However, the answer here is pretty easy… from a guy named "KoshDukai" but I just call him Kashi. Here is his page: https://koshdukaimusicreason.blogspot... Kashi is a Huge Reason Power genius! He created this system where he made an amazing MIDI mapping system where you can actually isolate each instrument by its own channel. Just go and download a thing called “Generic MIDI Channel aware Remote Codec+Map” You extract with 7zip or whatever, it comes with a couple folders called Codecs, Lua codecs and Other.

You simply copy those folders into your Propellerhead software directory under C : / drive, Windows, ProgramData, Propellerhead Software directory. Then go to a folder called Remote and it you will see two folders called Codecs and Maps, and that's where you're gonna place the files from Codecs and Maps in. And for the Other Directory, it’s located in Codecs - Lua codecs, and this where you place those many generic MIDI controller files, and once you copy them in, you're done. Don’t forget to restart Reason.

Once you open up Reason, go in and Edit your preferences and add a new Keyboard control surfaces for each MIDI channel. You have to add each one manually, so you select what port it is, as your main keyboard controller. You can do this with multiple controllers and multiple different external MIDI devices. It doesn't have to be just one set you could actually do many variations of this and the only thing you really have to do is just pick your port. Take note I have the Reason’s Master keyboard input set to “separated” Keep them separated. Plus I don't have anything set as Master keyboard. It will default with a weird exclamation point, but don't worry about that that's just normal it's just reason just complaining, hey you're doing something funky and weird I don't like it but I'm gonna go ahead and let it happen anyways.

I'm running this program called Copper Lan Manager, it allows me to network in different computers with one master MIDI. For example, This computer right here is a remote computer sitting on a rack. I have no keyboard or mouse to it. I'm just remote into it via Microsoft’s RDP. I do have a sound card that comes out with a long Audio cable/line, which travels back into my main Mixer Soundboard. And that is how I hear sound from the remote PC that my Reason is installed on.

This is how I like to do my Music processing because you can separate everything and it makes for a great way to save a huge amount of variety with very low processor utilization. Say like I want to bring in another DAW, I don't really care for Reason’s Rewire, it just gets on my nerves and in the way. It eats up a ton of processing and disables certain features with 3rd party VST support. I like to run certain VSTs from with Reason, Rewire will disable that function, which makes things more cumbersome. The cool thing about it is when you run Reason on a separate Computer, you will save on CPU processing power, splitting the processing load.

Granted, you need a second computer and a second audio card, but it’s not that hard and or expensive. I use only one audio input channel and I don't worry about bringing in multiple Audio channels. I like to use Reason as its own little Pre-Mixing Bus. I’ll do all my pre-mixing in Reason.

Just right click on the actual instrument don't do the bus, do the actual instrument and you just pick "Lock MIDI channel to this device"
