Bonsai Project: Juniper Horizontalis Blue Star

Starting the development process of a new bonsai project.

This was an inexpensive tree bought from a local plant nursery.

I started the process by removing the lower branches, making the main trunk more visible and wired the two main trunks. The next phase was to remove all the soil, trying not to damage any roots. During summer, damaging roots will be extremely harmful to the tree.

The new substrate is a mix of akadama, kanuma, volcanic gravel, a little organic matter, and coconut peat.

I will prune some of the branches at the top of the tree later on this season or next season. I want them to turn into hardwood and have a more vigorous tree top.
