Who holds the title for winning the biggest election landslide in US History? Well, it depends how you look at it.
Franklin D. Roosevelt’s victory in the 1936 election is often cited as perhaps the greatest landslide victory, receiving 60.8% of the popular vote and securing 523 electoral votes out of 531, which was about 98.5% of the electoral college!
Another contender, however, is Ronald Reagan, who in the 1984 election won 58.8% of the popular vote* and secured 525 electoral votes out of 538. Reagan also won 49 out 50 states, compared to FDR’s 46 out of 48.
So, while both had massive wins, FDR's 1936 victory was a slightly larger landslide in terms of the percentage of electoral votes won and the popular vote.
