"Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth!" (Psalm 46:10)
To "make a name for yourself" means to become well-known, to be respected by many people for your accomplishments. The reputations of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln live on. The literary works of William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens continue to be read. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are indelibly part of the history of computers.
God says in today's verse that He also made a name for Himself. God's accomplishments dwarf those of even the most famous people. God created the universe, without which there would be nobody, either famous or insignificant. God took the descendants of Abraham and formed a nation with such a strong identity that Jews today see themselves as one people despite being scattered across the globe. God gave His law to Moses, which taught the sinfulness of man and the universal need of forgiveness.
In the New Testament, God took on flesh and lived among us in the form of Jesus. On the cross, Jesus accomplished something even greater than physical creation. Jesus's death gives spiritual life to all who come to Him in faith. "Therefore, God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9-11)
