Fresh off of his Oscar win, Leonardo DiCaprio made his way to Vanity Fair’s annual Oscar party, this year hosted at a custom Basil Walter–designed space in Beverly Hills between the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and City Hall. The Revenant star marched his statuette past a mariachi band, down a dark corridor papered with the V.F. Hollywood cover, past a giant topiary Oscar, and into the party where he joined Jennifer Lawrence, Alicia Vikander, Brie Larson, and more Oscar-night luminaries. From there, his partygoing peers acted like everyone else in America, lining up to offer DiCaprio their congratulations on his Oscar win.
Leo’s well wishers included Chris Rock, Puff Daddy, Ben Affleck, Rebel Wilson, Patricia Clarkson, Faye Dunaway, and Elton John, the last of whom posed for photos with the newly-minted and deliriously happy Oscar winner. When DiCaprio failed to brandish his statuette in the frame, John ordered him to “hold that fucker up!” and DiCaprio dutifully obliged, carefully correcting his Oscar when he realized it was facing the wrong way. Nearby, the Oscar winner’s mom told partygoers how proud she was of her son, and gleefully posed for photos with the Academy Award when she wasn't snapping pictures of her son with it.
Several feet away, a pregnant Anne Hathaway made conversation with Eddie Redmayne’s pregnant wife Hannah Bagshawe. In the lounge, an Oscar-toting Alicia Vikander spoke Swedish to a pal while her boyfriend Michael Fassbender danced around her. Taylor Swift, her brother Austin, and Lorde excitedly drifted through the crowd, which included John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Sofia Vergara, Tina Fey, Kate Upton, Nick Jonas, David Copperfield, Paul Dano, and Game of Thrones’s Emilia Clarke, who huddled with the show's co-creator David Benioff.
Earlier in the evening, 150 guests including Judd Apatow, Elizabeth Banks, Larry David, Bill Maher, Jon Hamm, Rupert Murdoch, Jerry Hall, and Jimmy Iovine arrived at the elegant venue for an intimate dinner prepared by French Laundry and Per Se mastermind Thomas Keller. The menu, featuring upscale comfort foods, included chicken pot pie, salmon en croûte, black truffle lasagna, and, for dessert, banana splits. Guests dined in a circular, wood-paneled dining room and were given a bespoke
