PTSD: Out of the Shadows and Into the Light! Before we get started I’d like to share a little about who I am. I come with several years of emergency management experience; managing police, fire, and EMS emergency calls for service. As well as several years of Program Management experience, developing, overseeing, and implementing various social services programs from Emergency Homeless Shelters, to Veteran Reintegration programs, and employment preparation services for persons with disabilities. Through my experience I have encountered individuals from various walks of life, and in some instances having to talk members of the public out of taking their own lives. These individuals ranged from your average member of the community, to transgenders, and those whom have experienced war. Our goal is to help remove the negative stigma associated with seeking help, by educating the community on the various faces of PTSD and mental illness. This subject is especially personal and dear to me, considering I lost a very very close loved one to this battle. Today, I will be speaking with a veteran of the Vietnam war on the trauma he has experienced as a result of war, and how he has learned to cope with the symptoms of this condition.
