Modern studies also suggest that cow dung contains beneficial microbes and antimicrobial properties.

Cow urine is mentioned in classical Ayurvedic texts such as the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita. It is considered a natural detoxifier that helps balance the body’s three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurveda prescribes gomutra for ailments such as skin diseases, liver problems, digestive issues, and even as a supportive treatment for chronic illnesses. Modern research has found that cow urine distillate may have antioxidant and immune-boosting effects, and it can enhance the effectiveness of certain medicines.

Together with milk, curd, and ghee, cow dung and urine form part of Panchagavya Chikitsa, a traditional therapy using five cow products. This system is believed to promote overall health, strengthen immunity, and maintain spiritual as well as physical well-being.

Thus, in Indian medical culture, cow dung and cow urine are not just seen as natural by-products, but as powerful elements for healing, cleanliness, and spiritual purification. They reflect the holistic approach of Ayurveda, where health is connected with nature, environment, and divinity.
