How to go about transcribing chordal playing from jazz recordings?! How can we hear 4-5 notes at the same time and learn the chords that Jazz guitar greats are using on recordings?

I know, it's much harder than to transcribe single-note jazz. In this video, we'll discuss how to proceed to get the most out of recordings by such greats as Ed Bickert, Lenny Breau and the likes...

Some tips:
-Start with a recording that has no horn (either trio album, or guitar-bass duo). Check out the album "Live at the Garden Party", Ed Bickert and Don Thompson duo:

Another tip:
-Use a slowdown software. For instance, these days I use Song Surgeon:

Third tip:
-Try to change string set when you found a voicing. Sometimes the same sounds can be produced in several locations. For instance: Cm7 x3x343 ... or Cm7 8x888x. Even the "next chord" doesn't make sense, try switching strings.

Fourth tip:
-Transcribe rhythms first. If you don't have all the voicings yet, it's okay. Keep the rhythms in mind, you can always come back to hear all the full chords later.


Myself:
-I spent three-four days on about 8 bars of music. I transcribed a part of "Come Rain or Come Shine". The first chord played by Ed Bickert is x6x765 ... which is a D minor triad with an Eb in the bass. But the tune should start with an F major chord of some sort. What the what?

So Ed Bickert is in fact playing an F7 there. I didn't expect that!!! :-)
