Описание к видео Beauty queen models for Akon

Ameyaw Debrah, VoicesofAfrica mobile reporter in Accra, Ghana (23 September 2008) 20 year old Ghanaian former beauty queen, Hamamat Montia has clinched a deal to model for Senegalese R&B singer, Akon's Konvict clothing line.
Hamamat who is now schooling and modelling in the US recounted her photo shoot for the Konvict clothing line as her most memorable moment in her young modelling career. The very impressive photo shoot was done by celebrity/fashion photographer Derek Blanks and Hamamat's makeup was done by celebrity makeup and hair stylist, Toni Jo Perruzi.

It is no wonder that Hamamat says, "I know how Beyonce feels like". In 2006, Hamamat won the Miss Malaika beauty contest to become the youngest lady to ever win a major beauty pageant in Ghana. She was 18 years and had just completed Senior High, while most of her contesting colleagues were in tertiary institutions.

"Miss Malaika did a lot with my confidence. The pageant made me grow up very fast. I felt that if I have been able to win Miss Malaika then I can do more things. So Malaika was great beginning", says the beauty queen. As part of her responsibilities as Miss Malaika, Hamamat worked as a malaria ambassador for a year and took the message of malaria prevention and the dangers of malaria to over 20 schools across Ghana.

She is particularly happy with the impact of her malaria campaign in the deprived Northern parts of Ghana where she comes from. As a Muslim, Hamamat and her family received a lot of criticisms from fellow Muslims about her participation in a beauty pageant because Islam does not allow such exposure and display of femininity.

Certainly, her critics would now be more offended with her career as a model but Hamamat says that so far as her parents are alright with her career then she cannot be bothered.

"With modelling, anytime you get a job, they ask you if you want to do it. So if it exposes your body too much, you can choose not to do it. You can choose to be a bikini model, lingerie model or runway model, it depends on you. My religion comes first so I wouldn't do anything that would be in bad taste".

Hamamat's campaign for the Konvict clothing line will kick off in October in the US.
