Lost in Space - July 6th 1989 (West Yorkshire's First Outdoor Rave) was held in a field at the junction of the M1 & M62 on the outskirts of Rothwell in Leeds.

The party has since gained legendary status as it was the first outdoor illegal party of it's kind in West Yorkshire.

Many people attended from Leeds burgeoning nightlife scene and most of the faces you see here would have been found at nights like Kaos, as well as clubs like Ricky's and The Warehouse most weekends. As well as at after hours (blues) like Twilight Zone.

The DJ on this particular night was Steve Williams, a Kaos regular and resident at Legends in Warrington.

Apologies if I've missed any other DJs off here, leave a comment if you want to be added to this.

The party was full on for about an hour and half with coaches bringing people in from central Leeds shortly before midnight, as well as local crews putting on their own buses from places like Garforth just a couple of miles away.

A party of such gravity never goes unnoticed for too long and sure enough we had some unwelcome visitors in the form of a full scale police operation shutting things down midway through the night.

This video here is part of that police operation and is taken from the master-tapes created by the 3 person camera crew that came along with what felt like 40+ of West Yorkshire's police. Obviously coming to see what all this Acid House lark was all about but documenting a rich slice of youth culture in the process. As such the video starts as the police enter the big-top marquee, no music, no sound, just youths being youths, kicking off the Acid House explosion..

Thanks to our mystery caller for getting this to those that were there 30 years after the event.
