Nestled at the lower end of the garden, the 7,000-square-foot conservatory was strategically placed to preserve the breathtaking view of the Biltmore Estate. This stunning greenhouse is divided into four grand rooms: the Palm House, Cool House, Hot House, and Orchid Room. Beyond these main spaces, smaller specialty areas branch off, including a sitting room, a cactus room, and a potting room, each adding its own charm to the conservatory's design.
According to the Biltmore website, orchids have been admired since Roman times, but it wasn’t until the early 1800s that they became a coveted status symbol among Victorians. This obsession sparked a frenzy known as "Orchidelirium,"where collectors and botanists competed to acquire the rarest specimens.
