STORYLINE:

The Israeli army withdrew from Jenin, a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank, on Saturday, after a raid and search operation that lasted two days and caused extensive damage.

But Mahmoud Tawalbeh, leader of the Islamic Jihad group in Jenin said Israel's operation in the camp will not succeed in damping down resistance.

Tawalbeh, who is top of Israel's wanted list, promised to continue fighting against Israeli occupation.

The Israeli operation is continuing in another camp, Balata, near Nablus.


Israeli said the operations were "self-defence".
