Phoenix Racing is a former NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series team that competed from 1989-2013. The team had over 30 different drivers spend time behind the wheel of one of the teams race cars. Including Jeff Purvis, Kurt Busch and Geoff Bodine. Florida businessman James Finch formed this team in 1989. In 1994 Finch signed Niel Bonnett to drive select races for the team. Sadly during Speedweeks at Daytona during practice Bonnett had a shock mount break and it sent him into the wall hard, so hard in fact he lost his life due to the accident. While typically running a partial schedule in the Cup Series, the team ran a lot more Xfinity Series races. In 2009 Brad Keselowski took Phoenix Racing's only Cup Series victory at Talladega. Kurt Busch ran the majority of the 2012 NASCAR Cup Series season behind the wheel of the #51 Chevrolet. He and the team had an amazing run at Sonoma, leading laps and finishing 3rd. As for the Xfinity Series side of the team, Mike Bliss, Mike Wallace, Jeff Purvis, Jimmy Spencer, Kurt Busch and Randy Lajoie all scored victories. Overall in 251 NASCAR Cup Series starts they scored 0 poles, 1 win, with a best points finish of 27th in 2012. In 543 Xfinity Series starts they scored 10 poles and 13 wins.
