Detecting pinch zoom and scaling image according to gesture is now easy to do in Android. Android provides and a class “android.view.ScaleGestureDetector” which detects scaling transformation gesture using the motion event supplied. This only works with motion events that are reported by touch.

To use this feature create a simple image view in your layout and add an image to it. Create a class extending from ScaleGestureDetector.SimpleOnScaleGestureListener and override its onScale() method which responds to gesture events on view. In onScale() method you can decide when you want to actually do the scaling. You need to set a scaleFactor for scaling image.
