An unboxing of the bloody good RS-7 from Black Rapid.

BlackRapid is a producer of camera straps and accessories for amateur and professional photographers.[1][2][3][4][5] The company is most well known for creating ergonomic, snugly fitting straps for a variety of camera types.[2][3] Founded in 2007, the Seattle-based company has experienced strong growth. Company revenue for 2011 exceeded $6 million.[1] Inc. Magazine has included BlackRapid on several of its prestigious lists of fast-growing companies.[1]

BlackRapid was founded in 2007 by photographer and inventor Ron Henry.[1][6] Henry still serves as company CEO. Company headquarters are located in Seattle, Washington.[1] From 2008 to 2011, BlackRapid experienced a growth rate of 1,282%.[1][7] Revenue in 2011 totaled $6.2 million.[1]

Camera slings are the signature product from BlackRapid, all of them featuring a design that distributes weight across the body rather than on the neck or shoulders. The RS-4 is one of the original straps produced by BlackRapid. It consists of a single shoulder strap for the camera.[8] Strap length for the RS-4 is 60 inches.[8] The RS-7 is a newer model that features a clip mount, while the RS-5 has built in pockets for storing small valuables.[9][10] RS Sport straps have an underarm component that keeps the whole device more firmly in place.[3] BlackRapid also produces a two camera strap system known as the Yeti, which is intended for two small cameras or one large and one small camera.[11] On the other hand, the RS DR-1 is designed for two large (SLR) cameras, with one at each hip and a strap over each shoulder.[12] Most BlackRapid camera straps attach to the camera with either a hook or a small screw-in connector.[13]
In 2010, BlackRapid introduced gender-specific shoulder straps.[6] The RS-W1 model strap has contours that more comfortably fit a woman's figure.[6] The company also produces a strap designed for left-handed photographers.[14]
BlackRapid recently collaborated with Tether Tools to create a shoulder strap for the Apple iPad.[2] The strap connects to the iPad with one of Tether Tools' Wallee tablet connectors.[2]
BlackRapid has made inroads into areas of the camera accessory market beyond shoulder straps. LensBling lens caps by BlackRapid are printed with the focal length on the end, which makes it easier for photographers to find the right lens quickly.[15]
In total, BlackRapid produces nearly 40 unique products, which the company distributes in more than 50 countries, including 200-plus American retailers.
