Stories told through art that honor lives in the community. Art that gives strength, honors lives and is therapeutic for the honoree, their family, friends, and community. The mission of Project Hue is to highlight lives well lived to help people remember who they are and to proceed beyond the current circumstances that honorees and their families may be dealing with.
Ruth was born and raised in West Allis, WI. Ruth was the youngest with one brother and two sisters.
She lived during the Great Depression and her memories are of her parent's fruit store. See her father was a peddler and had a blue truck he would use to go pick up the fruit and then sell it.
I considered myself a loaner growing up, I had very few girlfriends.
I met my husband on a blind date, he was in the military and stationed at Fort McCoy while we were dating. We used to go to Bradford beach all the time and Potawatomi. See I love casino games and old Hollywood. Some of my favorite stars were Lana Turner and George Montgumery.
Our group of friends set up a club where we would play Rummy and Mash. We would swim at Cedar Lake and go dancing all the time, I love dance music. Together me and my husband had four kids, three boys, and one girl. I find comfort in being with my family.
I am most proud of the fact that I took music voice lessons and may I say I am a good singer. My favorite song is Too Young by Nat King Cole. The advice I would give myself is "Mind my business, and love my family."
The revealing of the paintings for Project Hue is done in person or virtual with friends, family, staff members, and their community. The honoree's story and painting will be told for years to come in galleries and online.
