Delving into the wonders of magical Svalbard, an incredible place in the heart of the Arctic between Norway and the North Pole, home to sharp mountains, towering icebergs and incredible wildlife, including arctic fox, reindeer, walruses, seals and of course the king of the Arctic, the polar bear.

Here we are joined by polar explorer, author, publisher and broadcaster Kari Herbert. Kari is the daughter of Sir Wally Herbert, the first man to walk to the North Pole, from Alaska to Spitsbergen in 1969!

Kari spent the early years of her life living with a remote Inuit tribe in Northwest Greenland and also spent time with the Sami people of Lapland. Her writings have been published in magazines and newspapers all over the world, and she has taken part in many radio programmes, including BBC Radio 4, and BBC World Service and written many books centred around life in the polar regions.
