There were almost 500,000 international students enrolled in Chinese universities in 2018. These improved numbers are partly thanks to the Chinese government’s boosted scholarship scheme, with nearly 59,000 foreign students receiving a scholarship in 2017.

Another powerful draw for international students is the increasing number of English-taught programs, with the number available increasing by 63 percent in the last five years.

Scholarships in China open every year between March and May.
