In this powerful video, Dr. Ruchi Goel, Senior Consultant and Head of Oculoplasty at Eye7 Group of Hospitals, shares an inspiring case of a patient who had been living with a painful, blind eye since childhood. Although the eye had no vision, the patient continued to suffer from severe discomfort, redness, and emotional distress. After trying many treatments without success, his condition worsened, leading him to seek expert care at Eye7.
Dr. Ruchi explains how a detailed examination revealed a suspected intraocular tumor and extensive damage to the eye's outer layers. Because of this, a common procedure called evisceration (removing the contents of the eye while keeping the outer shell) was not possible. Instead, she chose enucleation, a surgery that involves removing the entire eye, followed by the placement of an orbital implant.
The procedure had two main goals: to relieve pain and restore the cosmetic appearance of the eye. After removing the damaged eye, Dr. Goel preserved the eye muscles, which are essential for moving a prosthetic eye naturally. She then placed a conformer implant in the eye socket, which maintains the shape of the eye and prepares the area for a custom-made prosthetic eye.
What made this case unique was the use of a special surgical technique called the myoconjunctival method. This approach anchors the prosthetic eye to the surrounding muscles, allowing it to move in sync with the patient’s healthy eye. As a result, the prosthetic looks natural and moves realistically, greatly improving the patient's appearance and confidence.
The video includes striking before-and-after visuals and a touching interview with the patient, Mr. Mansoor Ali, who traveled from Agra for the surgery.
"I had been living with constant pain and vision loss in my eye for many years," says Mr. Ali. "Nothing worked until I came to Eye7. Dr. Goel recommended enucleation with an implant, and I am so thankful. Not only is the pain gone, but my confidence is back. I can finally move forward, pain-free and happy."
