Surveillance. It’s all about discovering or uncovering the unknown. With insurance cases, are these individual working? Are they as injured as they claim to be? Child custody cases, are these people actually with their children? Are there restraining orders that are being violated? Again, are these people working or earning more than they claim to be?
Are your employees where they claim to be? Are they stealing and selling your product? I had a case I was very successful. This gardener was working for a well-known nursery, and this individual was going around distributing his own personal marketing material and undercutting this nursery. So, not only was he stealing their time that he was paid for, he was also stealing their clients, their products, and, shoot, even on the… on his off-days he was using the corporate vehicle. So, not only we were able to track these vehicles with GPS trackers. We also backed up and supported this with videotape proof that this individual was stealing. It did result in a termination and the individual agreed to paid back what was an estimated loss versus being sued.
Another great case I was very successful, that we’ve recently done, was a Russian case where these individuals were buying and remanufacturing or relabeling, anyways, pharmaceuticals. They would order, let’s say, knockoff patches from China, relabel them, flip them on the internet and sell them on the black market. What we were able to do is give videotape surveillance of this individual meeting a guy that we further identified as the money launderer. So, you would see an exchange of product, which we were able not only get id shots of these individuals, their vehicle registration, also the product; we were able to take a great picture and zoom it in, showed that he’s actually moving product, and eventually moving money. So, that helped our client put that package together for the district attorneys.
Until now you’re asking yourself like, why is surveillance so expensive? And I’ll tell you this, because the results are worth it. There’s basically three factors into the cost of surveillance. One, you have the experience level of the investigators. Two, the equipment that we use, for example, the camera we’re shooting on in here is a four-thousand-dollar camera without lenses. You know, also have GPS trackers, drones, hidden watch cameras, you name it, it all adds up our insurance. And then, the third final factor is just because it’s absolutely worth it. It’s like craps, you’re gonna throw the dice on a couple of them….. but the ones that hit are gonna hit big. So, those are the three factors for the cost of surveillance investigators. Put it in terms of this way, like three months ago I worked a case, it was an insurance fraud case, they were demanding a million dollars, nine hundred and eighty thousand dollars to be exact. And after my videotape showing her doing everything she claimed she couldn’t, partying in Vegas, dancing, stilettos heels, working, in fact, she was actually like got caught in some awkward intimate positions in a car which is another part of her claim. What you know, the jury didn’t believe her, and took that case from nine hundred and eighty thousand dollars they awarded her one twenty-five and that included the medical. So, that was the jury sending a big message saying, “We’re covering your medical. Take a hike”. That’s why we’re worth it.
Some of the equipment that we use are hidden cameras such as this pen camera, the camera is up here, little on button. We also have various watches that we use for very close-up surveillance where maybe I need to identify somebody, or if we’re on a bar showing that, you know, the bar tender is kind of scheming off the top and not ringing our stuff. We’re able to like track it and get videotape of that. So, this is great for close-up jobs. We have multiple camcorders that we like using on jobs. I always recommend bringing two. These things shoot like fifty times zoom plus night vision, you can see mega batteries, great storage capacity for video.
Other devices that we use are GPS trackers. So, we have trackers as small as this; we’re able to like attach to a magnet and get it up in there. And, of course, each state and each law like varies state to state. We also have trackers that go into the vehicle where it’s hardwired. So, this would be plugged into the OBD2, ran up into the dash of the vehicle, and it’s just powered and runs unlimitedly. We have also these mega battery packs with massive magnets that you can practically do pull-ups with it if need be.
And finally, the fun stuff, the toys that all of us guys like to play with are the drones. I love using this drone when we need like a crazy aerial shot. In fact, I just used this last week where an individual, it was a criminal case, where an indivi
