This measurement system is a laser system that allows the measurements all components of velocities and its statistics of fires and smoke, when applied appropriately. This laser system uses two laser sheets to measure all three components of velocity. Additionally, part of this system should have the ability to do smoke visualization. Currently, single-component invasive methods (hot-wires) are used, PIV is a non-invasive three-component measurement method, which can also be used inside fires and smoke.

2D-3C Stereo PIV system with option for SIV, that meet the following requirements:

Dual pulsed laser
A 532 nm laser optimized for PIV with 200 mj/pulse energy (per laser head)
at the repetition rate of at least 15 Hz. The pulse duration should be no more than 10 ns. The power supply unit and other accessories required to
run the laser must be supplied with the laser.
Continuous wave laser
A 2W CW laser for smoke visualization. The power supply unit and other accessories required to run the laser must be supplied with the laser.
Laser light sheet optics
Optics capable of focusing the laser beam waist between 200 mm to 4000 mm including
90 deg mirror unit accessory.
Two high resolution cameras
High-resolution cameras with at least 24 MP with a frame rate of 30 fps. The camera must be supplied with 35 mm lenses and a suitable frame grabber to operate the cameras.
Scheimpflug camera mounts (2)
Scheimpflug camera mounts capable of pivoting around the camera sensor plane without needing to tilt the camera lens.
System for automated camera calibration
A system for performing spatial camera calibrations directly and automatically, in air or water. The targets must use actively lit LED dots on the target and operation must be fully controlled by the PIV software. The target should be modular enough to mount other similar targets to create larger targets for larger measurement areas.
Performance synchronizer/programmable timing unit
Synchronizer to control the timing of cameras and laser with the following capabilities:

Time resolution ≤ 8ns.
Min. pulse width ≤ 48ns.
4 Sync inputs.
4 analog outputs.
2 analog inputs.
Safety circuit.
USB & Ethernet.
This is for future use with other measurements devices, such as hot-wire anemometry and LDV.
