A tripartite peace accord between the pro-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), and the central and Assam governments was signed in New Delhi on Friday, aiming to end decades of insurgency in the northeastern state.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Chief Minister called the signing a ‘historic day’ for the state, adding that he is grateful to ULFA for accepting the peace accord. Sarma credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for personnally supervising the peace deal.
