Let’s talk about modern proof sets and the values of proof sets going forward – are they a good investment? I generally tend to think not, but I’m open to other people’s thoughts. They are a fun way to own coins from a specific year, and I personally own some myself, but their long term rarity and collectability seems to be challenging to see. I generally favor things that are authentically rare, and instead would recommend to know the ins and outs of proof sets in terms of varieties and cherrypicker-type errors. Let’s go through my opinions on these, both for the classic sets as well as the more recent ones (state quarter and newer types).
