Welcome to Pinnacles National Park at the West Gate Entrance. We entered the Park from Soledad, California which is off of Highway 101. From here we took CA-146E towards the Park which got a little narrow at times but the road was in good shape. I'm thinking this side is not as popular as the East entrance because there wasn't a lot of traffic and not many vehicles parked in the Chaparral Parking Lot. It was an incredible morning and our plan for the day is to take an 8.5 mile loop. We started from the Juniper Canyon Trail, which took us up in elevation, and links to the Tunnel Trail. After going through a short tunnel this trail then junctions with the High Peaks Trail. The High Peaks Trail which is in the higher elevation of the park, gave us a great view of the pinnacles and the surrounding areas. High Peaks then brings us all the way to the East Side where it junctions with the Bench Trail. Bench meets up with the Old Pinnacles Trail and eventually the Balconies Cave Trail where we were able to crawl through the Balconies Cave. Because of the length of the hike we are going to break this up into two parts. The first part takes us from the Chaparral Parking area to the Old Pinnacles Parking lot located on the East Side. Our second video will include the Balconies Cave section which was really awesome! Pinnacles is also known as a location where California Condor live however we weren't able to see any. We saw a lot of turkey vultures but unfortunately no Condor.
