This bad storm happened about 6:10 PM on Tuesday May 31, 2022 next to the East Lake Rd in Palm Harbor, Florida and I got caught in it. I was kind of expecting a storm to pop up on top of me but, it still came out of the blue. I was not expecting it to be as fierce as it was on my last couple of miles of riding a 60 mile ride.

The first part of the video is a new carved bike path at Pinellas Trail on East Lake Rd South of John Chesnut Sr Park. It's not ready yet though. I shouldn't have been on it but, I was in a hurry and I don't like getting on East Lake Rd or crossing that road to ride on a narrow sidewalk on the other side.

Watch how quickly the weather changes on me when I was riding my bike here. The orange construction barrels next to East Lake Rd all got pushed into the road when the super strong wind picked up. I had to hold onto my bike so, it wouldn't fly away. That's why I got low with the bike to keep it out of the wind. I didn't know what was going on. The wind was so strong and I couldn't see very well. I thought a tornado was near me or coming my way. If you look at my other video before this video, the clouds start to spin like a tornado was developing. I only thought for a second to pull the first barrel out of the road that hit that truck but, then all of the barrels went flying and it wasn't worth it for me to risk my life to do that so, I moved away from the Road. That's East Lake Rd where people usually drive 60 mph. It's not one to be a cleanup hero on. I think they all went into the 2nd lane except for that first one. I was too busy trying to get out there to look. Too bad my camera tilted down there. I thought I had captured all of that. I was too busy running for my life to realize the camera was down low.

Then lightning struck a pole across the road from me and that you see in the video. I saw it hit but, I thought it hit to the left more. Maybe two strikes hit there. It was definitely something midway on that cement camera pole that got struck. I think the antenna at the top played a role. I don't think they grounded it. I didn't realize my GoPro captured the lightning strike until I watched it. This was a ride that I will never forget! That was the worst storm that I have ridden my bike in.

I thought it was funny that I got the tornado warning after all of that happened. I also thought it was funny that it said to take shelter in a basement. Somebody better tell them most people don't have a basement in Florida.

My camera records my app saying it was 608 pm. The warning that comes over my phone is reading Tornado watch until 645 pm. It's Great we got a warning but, it would be nice if it was faster than that.
