He explains how different sages have taken the role of Vyāsa in various Yugas, highlights the necessity of Purāṇas for the general populace, and reveals that the current Vyāsa, Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana, chose his son Śuka Deva as the recipient of this knowledge. Finally, he expresses gratitude for learning the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam from Vyāsa himself.

Inspired, Vyasa sets off to the mountains for intense penance, trusting in the Devi to fulfill his wish.
