Live from Jerusalem, the Galilee Ensemble is excited to share with you the Romanian Folk Dances by Béla Bartók. One of our favorite pieces on the program, it is even more special for us due to its historical relations with the picturesque town of Rosh Pina in the Northern Galilee, the Ensemble's home base. In the 1880s, Romanian immigrants settled Rosh Pina alongside the existing Arab village of Jaouni. Today, northern Israel remains a place of harmonic cohesion between east and west; and the Bartók arrangement, written by musical director and cellist Leat Sabbah, is a reflective fantasy about their cultural exchange.
