The 1944-45 Hunger Winter in Holland and the Baby House

Описание к видео The 1944-45 Hunger Winter in Holland and the Baby House

The Allied Forces were unable to break through the German fronts above the large Dutch rivers in the winter of 1944-45. The south of the Netherlands was liberated, but it took 9 more months until 7 May 1954 until the rest of the Dutch were free. The west of the country, where the big cities are located, suffered its worst famine in the country's history.
In this video you can see how 13 Amsterdam babies were rescued by being sent to a clandestine Baby house in Groningen, in the north of the country.

I touch on the hunger winter, resulting in the death of 20,000 to 30,000 inhabitants and life-long eating disorders for many of the survivors in my latest book on the Dutch Resistance, The Crystal Butterfly.
