In the wake of the recent stabbing attack that left three people dead in Solingen, Germany, Parliament will discuss how to address threats to security in the European Union.

German authorities responded to the rampage by deciding to reintroduce controls at all its land borders for an initial six-month period. An asylum seeker has been charged for the attacks.

Parliament members are likely to raise concerns over the announced checks and their impact on the Schengen area of free circulation.

They will also assess the preparations for the implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, expected to be operational from mid-2026. It foresees enhanced security checks for all persons entering the EU irregularly and accelerated asylum and return procedures at EU borders for persons not entitled to international protection.
