In this episode of DJs BrewTube I am going "LOCAL" again and review Heavy Seas The Great Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Heavy Seas The Great Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Ale is an Imperial Pumpkin Ale that clocks in at, 8.0% ABV. Heavy Seas Brewing describes The Great Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Ale as:

"The Great Pumpkin is the pumpkin beer you spend the summer looking forward to: a robust amber ale to which we add a blend of pumpkin spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and allspice) while it's in the kettle. Dark brown sugar adds color and a little bit of dryness to the spicy ale. The secret is in the 2.5 pounds of spice per barrel for this fall brew. We add the pumpkin during the mash at precisely the right time to create just the perfect balance of malt, hops, pumpkin and spice."

All this sounds really great. Lets see if a year in the cellar has improved this one. Enjoy the review..... Written review follows:

Heavy Seas The Great Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Ale ((2012 Vintage)) REVIEW:

A: Heavy Seas The Great Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Ale ((2012 Vintage)) pours a hazy dark copper color with glowing orange highlights and moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a 1.25 finger tall dark kaki head that reduces to a thick film covering the entire surface of the beer. Moderate amounts of lacing and plenty of alcohol legs were observed.

S: Fragrant aromas of pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice stand out). Light amounts of sweetness in the smell. No alcohol aroma was detected.

T: Moderate to strong flavors of caramel malts with quite a bit of sweetness along with moderate flavors of pumpkin and now tamed pumpkin pie spices. The cinnamon really stands out now the previously over powering nutmeg has died down.

M: Medium bodied with smooth carbonation. Light amounts of alcohol heat in the chest as it goes down smooth as silk.

O: When the Great Pumpkin was fresh, things seem just a touch out of balance between the pumpkin and spices and the alcohol. A year in the cellar took away the rough edges and elevated the brew by taming the spices and integrating the flavors. A very nice drink but a shame that it takes a tear to get it to this state.
