David Robert Jones (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016), known as David Bowie@vid_Bowie
was an English singer, songwriter and actor. Regarded as among the most
influential musicians of the 20th century, Bowie received particular
acclaim for his work in the 1970s. His career was marked by reinvention
and visual presentation, and his music and stagecraft have had a great
impact on @pular_music.


Bowie studied art, music and design before embarking on a
professional music career in 1963. He released a string of unsuccessful
singles with local bands and @vid_Bowie_(1967_album) (1967) before achieving his first top-five entry on the @_singles_chart with "@ace_Oddity" (1969). After a period of experimentation, he re-emerged in 1972 during the @am_rock era with the @ter_ego @ggy_Stardust_(character). The single "@arman_(song)" and its album @e_Rise_and_Fall_of_Ziggy_Stardust_and_the_Spiders_from_Mars (1972) won him widespread popularity. In 1975, Bowie's style shifted towards a sound he characterised as "@astic_soul", initially alienating many of his UK fans but garnering his first major US crossover success with the number-one single "@me_(David_Bowie_song)" and the album @ung_Americans (1975). In 1976, Bowie starred in the cult film @e_Man_Who_Fell_to_Earth and released @ation_to_Station. In 1977, he again changed direction with the @ectronic_music-inflected album @w_(David_Bowie_album), the first of three collaborations with @ian_Eno that came to be known as the @rlin_Trilogy. @2Heroes%22_(David_Bowie_album) (1977) and @dger_(album) (1979) followed; each album reached the UK top-five and received critical praise.
