Why were Jesus’s bones not broken?
God said that “no bones of the Passover lamb shall be broken” (Num 9:12, Ex. 12:46). The covenant of God with us was not represented in the Blood only, but also in the bones! The bones of the wicked nations that rejected God were always broken, scattered, and destroyed (Num 24:8) on command of God Himself (Ps 53:5, Ezekiel 6:5). God forbade that the bones of His enemies should be buried by anybody (as a sign to all that His covenant wasn’t with those people). Their bones were literally taken from their graves (Jer 8:1, 2) and burned or cremated according to God’s command (2 Kings 23:16, 20). Their bones were broken to indicate that there was no strength in ungodliness (Dan 6:25, Ps 10:15, Ezek 30:22).
The bones of wicked and fearful were weak (Hab 3:16, Prov 17:22, 15:30, 12:4). Jesus said the Pharisees were like tombs, full of dead men’s bones (Matt 23:7). He said that to expose their dead inner state and separation from Him. God-serving people had strong bones that resembled inner Life and strength (2 Kings 13:21). The devil could only touch the outer part of Jesus’s life—the dust part (after He took our sins upon Himself). Within, He was and is blameless and strong! The bones of criminals on the cross were broken, but the bones of the Lamb of God were not touched, as was prophesied for thousands of years before the crucifixion (Ps 34:20). The reason: God’s covenant was only with Him! (And with us through Him or as part of Him). We are bone of His bones. His bones or Innermost being can never ever be broken. We have that untouchable Inner Strength within us. They can hurt us on the outside, but inside they can never break us!
