Instructions for Florida Insurance Agents for meeting their Renewal and Continuing Education ("CE") Requirements. Florida agents can learn about when they must do their CE, what courses you must take, how to earn CE Credits, and other helpful information for keeping their Florida Insurance License active and compliant.
This applies to Florida Licensed Agents: Life, Health, General and Personal Lines Agents as well as Adjusters.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Unlike most other states, Florida does not have any renewal requirements; meaning there is no renewal application, and better yet, there are no renewal fees. You simply need to complete your continuing education once, every two years.
Your CE Due Date is the day you have to have your continuing education completed by. This is the last day of your birth month, again, every 2 years.
The amount of CE you need to take depends on how long you have been licensed. Agents licensed 6 years or less need to complete 24 credit hours of continuing education, whereas agents licensed more than 6 years only need to complete 20 credit hours of continuing education.
These are the maximum number of credit hours you will need to take, regardless of how many license types you hold.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
You can complete courses in any subject matter, as long as they are approved by the Florida Department of Financial Services and you must complete 4 credit hours in a law and ethics course approved for at least one of your license types.
For example, if you hold a 214 life agent license, as well as a 220 general lines agent license, you only need to complete the law and ethics course in one of your license types.
SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Agents who sell certain products may have special training requirements. For example, agents who sell flood insurance must complete a one-time 3 credit hour flood insurance training course, and agents who wish to sell long term care insurance must complete an 8 credit hour initial training course, as well as a 4 credit hour refresher course every compliance period.
COURSE RESTRICTIONS
It is important to note that agents cannot receive credit for the same course taken within 2 years from the last completion date.
