David Goggins | Moab 240

David Goggins was battling for the lead at the Moab 240, before a damaged trail marker lead him off course.

He went about 7 miles before realizing and had to go back another 7 miles to return to the course.

Once back on course, Goggins had dropped from 2nd to 76th place, but fought his way back to 10th.

At around mile 170, Goggins started suffering from pulmonary edema. He kept running, but at mile 200 he couldn't breathe.

Goggins went to the hospital, where they told him he couldn't be at altitude for 14 days let alone finish the race.

The trip to the hospital had disqualified Goggins from the race, but the next morning he went back to the course and finished anyway.
